Almost there...

Apparently a palace sentry did hear the Princess scream and came over to investigate, just as Kistarking was putting the finishing touches on her Whelsdela.  Within her expanding head, another transformation is taking place.  The trapped servant inside is starting to develop gills on her neck; the gills will begin to filter in the life-sustaining gases around her, which should keep her alive until the Princess decides to release her.
